Interphase FISH for B-lymphoproliferative Disorders Study Day

This meeting was held on Wednesday 2nd March 2005 at The Radisson SAS Hotel (No. 1 The Light, Leeds). The meeting was attended by 50 delegates from haematology, histopathology and clinical cytogenetics laboratories across the UK and Ireland. We are grateful to Abbott Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories (Vysis) for sponsoring this meeting.

Purpose of meeting

Interphase FISH is rapidly becoming a critical technique in the identification of cytogenetic abnormalities in B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (B-LPD). Interphase FISH can be applied for use in fresh samples (including peripheral blood and bone marrow smears, and touch preparations from fresh tissue biopsies) and in formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue.

The main aims of the meeting are:

  1. Overview the laboratory diagnosis of B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders
  2. Overview the cytogenetic abnormalities that aid in the diagnosis and identify prognostic variables in B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders
  3. Review methodology and quality control issues which may be unique to B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders with a view to defining 'Best Practice'

Who should attend this study day?

This meeting is specifically targeted to diagnostic laboratories (cytogenetics / histopathology / haematology) who currently use interphase FISH in the diagnosis of B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders or those who have a major interest in establishing these techniques.
